‘Pause’

An away day and retreat for chaplains

‘Pause’ is an opportunity for you to take a few moments in a different environment to step away from your day to day and to pause, listen, reflect and pray.

We often get so focused on the important things we do and the things we are involved in, that we don’t take the time to invest in ourselves and consider life from a different perspective.

‘Pause’ is an opportunity for you to have some space to invest in you and spend time in God’s presence and feel refreshed and re-energised.

The next ‘Pause’ day will take place on Wednesday 10th May between 10:30am and 7:30pm on the Upper Reaches Prayer Barge in Temple Quay.

Here are a few things about the day…

  • There is no set programme during the day so turn up anytime between 10:30am and 7:30pm. We recommend you plan to spend at least 2 hours on the barge.

  • We have planned 5 different reflections for you to work through during the day.

  • Come by yourself or bring your chaplaincy team.

  • There is no hospitality provided, but the barge is located by some fantastic coffee shops and cafes and you are welcome to bring some lunch with you.

  • Our lead chaplains, Richard and Lois will be hosting the day and will be available to pray with you and support you if needed.

Details of the 5 reflections are as follows -

  • Reflection 1 - “Looking out, what do you see?” - Taking time to step back and reflect on the things that are unseen in our day to day.

  • Reflection 2 - “The Kintsugi Artwork” - Reflecting on our own brokenness, how that shapes us, and how that helps us to love and support others.

  • Reflection 3 - “A walk around Temple Quay” - Connecting with people in the street and engaging with them as we take a short walk. A stop off at “Small Goods Coffee Shop” on route to pick up one of the best donut’s in Bristol is absolutely encouraged.

  • Reflection 4 - “The Holy Spirit” - Reflections on the Holy Spirit while sat around the log burner on the barge.

  • Reflection 5 - “Communion” - Take communion and reflect on the incredible power of God’s forgiveness and salvation.
